MATCH REPORT : Sunday 13th October. Aldershot (H) 1-2

A  typical wet, autumnal morning at Bushy Park had some of us old-timers  staring misty-eyed at the perfect slide-tackle conditions!

The game itself was a fantastic advert for girls football, with two well-matched and utterly committed teams, ignoring the filthy conditions and putting on a really exciting spectacle for the spectators.

The first half belonged almost exclusively to TAFC, with a well-balanced formation allowing for the solid defence to provide an offensive platform for the attackers. Following several near-misses TAFC finally opened the scoring with Sadie's powerful shot being palmed by their keeper for Ruby to score. The half continued in this vein with several corners leading to mayhem in the opposition box. Half-time came with TAFC LEADING DESERVEDLY 1-0.

The second-half began as a more even affair, with Aldershot gaining more possession and looking more threatening. TAFC continued to have the better chances and several times excellent runs from Hannah Reiter frustrating flashed across the goal without a finishing touch being applied. Inevitably, Aldershot equalised mid-way through the half, as a corner was half cleared to the edge of the area where it was hammered into the net. As the half progressed the opposition threatened more and some excellent last-ditch defending kept the scores level.

Into the last 10 minutes and TAFC were again getting on top, with several half-chances created and spurned and as the clock ticked down to the final seconds disaster struck and from a defensive clearance an Aldershot player swung a boot and the ball looped agonisingly over Kathryn and nestled in the net- 2-1! 

Our old nemesis had once again won a game against TAFC that was barely deserved, but that's football!

Once again it was great to watch two fully committed, well-matched teams play in horrible conditions without complaint and speaks volumes for the character of these young ladies.
